Topic: Has any raced a 4x4 car?

I found a AMC Eagle 4x4 and was thinking about getting it.  Do 4x4 car do ok on the track?

Team Mustache Rides has raced an Audi 4000 Quattro quite a few times.  Had some engine issues, but driveline has been fine.  Top Fool Elomonator runs a subaru, and there are a few other subaru's that seem to have don all right also.  Now an eagle, that the judges will like.

Someone in Cali also raced a jeep.

On a side note Judge Phil loves to see anything amc on the track so you'd have that going for you.

There is also a team out east who runs a subaru outback which is pretty close to the same thing as an eagle

We also run an AWD subaru but would like to point out that AWD and 4WD are slightly different depending on the transfer case/coupling used to transfer power to front and rear wheels.

yeah, part time 4wd is nothing but dead weight, full-time is nothing but drivetrain loss and $500 won't get you the differentials to make it handle better, nor the power to need it.


My 88 323 GTX would be a great Lemons car. Crappy open-diff AWD, underpowered 1.6L Miata-esque turbo engine, and hard as hell to make handle on pavement.

We race an 84 4000 quattro.

It's a super primitive all wheel drive, not a true 4x4, so it would roll nice around the track.  Only one engine and one tranny used in them, so that makes it easy.  Just drop that suspension down and stroll through jeep forums for engine parts.  Same engine.
