Topic: Seatbelt angle question

Why do they want the shoulder belts flat or angled down to 15' after the seat?  I would imagine the impact force would want to crush your spine the more downward of an angle they are.  I remembered hearing back in the day they should angle up which makes sense for your spine.

All i can think is to help keep your butt in the seat in a rollover or to maybe help keep the belts on your shoulders in a front impact.

Re: Seatbelt angle question

Butt in seat. Any vertical wiggle room is similar to riding around with loose belts. There's a fair amount of stretch in the belts - they aren't going to rape and pillage your body as much as some incidental contact between your helmet and the cage or ceiling is going to.

Remember: "Back in the day" safety setups didn't have the benefit of everything we've learned since. Remember lap belts?
