Thought I'd share this over here as there seems to be a lot of questions about cages.
Mods, not sure if this should just get lumped in with another thread.

We see a lot of cages fail tech and require last-second thrashing to fix, so cage questions are always worth asking.
That's a terrifying cage. Sad. The builder even bragged about it on their web site - at least until the car owner called them on their shoddy workmanship.
This is the reason I leave the cage building to a qualified, spoken for professional.
JB Weld? What!?
that looks like it is strong enough to hold up during a sneeze
I can weld better than that, and my welding sucks. Painted over JB Weld? What part of that isn't fraudulent?
Given a really good lawyer one may be able to prove attempted murder.
That cage looks like I did it. I've never welded or built a cage. That is awful.

It's an obvious case of negligent manslaughter (attempted).
Holy shit. Another reason I'm glad we decided to do our own....
I hope he left a cutup pile of tubing on the guys doorstep.
Maybe JB weld the tubes to his front door?
It's unbelievable that someone would actually pass that off as work.
look; I got my welder in October, have no lessons, and a few pointers from youtube and my dad. If that guy is considered a "professional" then I must be a master because my FIRST welds ever look better than that main hoop to halo junction.
We get a lot of cages like this at my shop, we cut 'em out an replace 'em on a regular basis.
It would seriously piss me off to pay a "professional" cage builder and see that mess. The unfortunate thing is that the customer in that story didn't know enough to question it prior to getting to tech.
those door bars are intriguing though. Would that pass if it was on an otherwise sound cage?

Yeah - and my Drag-bug cage was about sixteen times better that that thing! Clint snapped a back-brace weld by hand, and Clint's no body-builder.

Should be OK, but I'm not an authoritative source obviously. Could slice out a section from each bent door bar and weld the two together. Or weld together and add plates like this. Use a die to press a lip into the plate through the hole to add rigidity.
Same design on the door bars, no pics seemed to show it all though
