Topic: Cold Fire for use as in-car supression???

http://www.coldfire.biz/

I came across this tonight at work... after watching vids of pit fires on Youtube.

Would this be allowed for in-car supression requirements???

Without going too far into it the website says its for class A and B fires, Lemons requires class C as well so the short answer is probably No.

Isn't C electrical fires?

yes c is electrical and I'm guessing there are electrical things in your car that can set it on fire.

a - is for normal materials like wood, plastic, paper, or all your theme stuff or things you forgot to remove from the interior

b - is for flammable or combustible liquids, such as gas oil grease or all that stuff you need to make your car  move.

c - is for electrical, or the stuff going through all those wires in your car that are attached to your battery and or alternator.

a = ashes
b = bucket
c = circuit

That's the one people told us to help remember.

d = magnesium

Not sure how to encode that one.

D is just metals in general. aluminum burns, as well as well as a few others. but no extinguisher is going to help you if that happens.

Looking at the video it looks like its a liquid which is why it isn't getting the c rating meaning instead of burning you might electrocute your self.

Cold Fire is great stuff from the limited amount I have used it.
I believe it is primarily sold as a cooling agent for welding and such.
It appears to be primarily water with a surface tension breaker.

Very handy as a partial discharge does not limit future use other than capacity.

Maybe a good as a fueling fire guard's extinguisher???

I have only seen ~16oz aerosol cans, not enough capacity.

Re: Cold Fire for use as in-car supression???

The Cold Fire that I know of is used as a fire suppressant.  Not only do they make fire suppression systems/extinguishers, they also have a spray for firesuits.  I know John Force (15 time NHRA Funny Car champion) used their systems.  I think if it would be good enough for a nitro-burning 5,000HP Funny Car, it should be ample for a Lemons car.  And the great thing about Cold Fire is that it is non-toxic.  You can spray the driver without fear of choking him out, like you would with a halon or powder extinguisher.

If they don't approve it for in the car, it would be great to have in the pits.
