$1200 for auto AC repair vs $99 window unit from Home Depot and a $50 power invertor.

And you can always recoup half of the cost of the window AC and inverter selling it... whatcha gonna do with AC parts?

Seems like an appropriately LeMony solution to me!

Can we start a little collection of hilarious quotes by you? The "I have cars hidden in places my wife doesn't even know about... no really" has been my facebook quote (credited to you) since Tuesday.

Re: Phew ... it's hot out there! (Lemons A/C inside)

hey , ya never know it could be just a little too hot and they wanted it to be extra cool in truck.
lol

but really that beats some things I've seen:

beats the truck i saw at wal-mart with a 3 German Shepards for a car alarm down in S.C.
one sitting happily at attention in the bed whilst one slept on the roof and the other on the truckbox

that also beats the Ford windstar on 22's at my local wal-mart

sadly i see more gery-rigged stuff on peoples cars at work then i do out on the road

Re: Phew ... it's hot out there! (Lemons A/C inside)

After sitting out on a hot flightline all afternoon with the A/C cranked and the truck still sitting around 85 degrees, I'd be willing to make that mod if the Air Force would let me.

Saw this at an Ingles supermarket parking lot somewhere near Brevard, NC:

We were there to get some of this:

which they don't sell in S.C.

guess that answers my question. i must tell B at the next NSF saftey meeting we need to put an ac in our "racecar"

drive hard or do laps. you decide

^^^ Jay gave us the Dangerous Banned Technology trophy and told us to "never do that again."    sad

But hey, you can always recycle your AC into TRUE COLD AIR INTAKE!!!

Did Jay say why you couldn't do it again, my guess would be the generator, not the ac unit, so if you could power the ac off an inverter you'd probably be ok.  Although if its hot and miserable enough it might not make it through BS without it getting confiscated.

Not sure why Jay said we couldn't but it wasn't the generator - we have had it in the car ever since.  We use it to run the air compressors that run our air brake and air horns plus whatever shenanigans we come up with - like the garbage disposal powered margarita machine!

We didn't really care because to tell the truth, it didn't work worth a shit.   smile   It was great in the paddock and on the drag strip but once you hit the track turns hard, the generator might hiccup just a little bit from the gas sloshing inside.   Once the AC short cycled, the compressor wouldn't restart for a minute.    Meanwhile the driver was stewing in tneir own juices with the windows stuck up.

We nearly killed the first driver from heat stroke and all got a good giggle laughing at their misfortune.

I seriously doubt that you could run an AC off an inverter - for long.  We had a small 5000BTU unit and it draws way too many amps for the alternator to keep up.   As soon as the inverter exhausts your battery, you're done.
