Topic: Some nonsense

I'm a big shot newsletter editor now and since "editor" is just a fancy word for "having to do everything" I end up writing nearly everything, including this month's Bench Racing article. Non-Lemons folk have liked it but for you guys and gals, its probably just a typical day or nightmare, or scene in Spank's garage.

Re: Some nonsense

that would be glorious.

the logistics of the fleet move is easier if you offer a small discount on the price of a seat in exchange for trailer duty.

SMALL discount being the operative word, there. free seats, no....since the driver would be getting there one way or another anyway. but if someone else is popping for fuel, i rent me, my van and my trailer very cheap....  you should be able to find similarly minded folks in cali.

to that end, we once rented a 7 car transporter to run a whole car club to a car show nine hours away, and back. it was cheaper than burning the gas in all 7 seven cars.

Spec Opel GT as a subclass of Lemons. Brilliant!

Re: Some nonsense

You sir are deranged. Dangerously unhinged as well. Paint them all the same color and make the numbers very small. This will make things very confusing.

Re: Some nonsense

The Spec GT idea had been suggested, and if this could ever happen most likely the cars would have identical running gear, partly because that would be easier but mostly because doing anything non-stock beyond swapping carb would increase the cost.  (I've got a tote full of Weber 32/36's.) Other than that, this would be project to live for. I mean, the birth of the Tinyvette sort of gave life around here meaning, so what would 10 more do?

Painting them all the same Rustolleum Sunburst yellow would be funny, and almost malicious, at least the corner workers would think so. The wrong cars would be getting BFs all day, but then there would be a certain justice to that. "Certain", for sure.

I've been turning away drivers recently, including a member of the Unser family. (We have a solid stable and domesticated core group.) Not enough to suggest I might actually be able to find 40 drivers, but if it got out that 10 Tinyvette were going a-racing...  Nah, the flood gates would not open. Still, Bernhard is in Germany now and he's promised me he'll talk to Sabine and also Tina Ruland (starred in "Manta Manta"), plus he's keeping his Unser family connection alive. If any of that happens Danika might even finally take notice. wink

And Pete, it's only a crazy idea. Insane would be putting 10 'Bees together, even if I leave out the unique rollered + cartwheeled body work. 10 stock, Lemon-spec MGBs.... Insane! (You need to do it.)

Turn the place into an orphanage?

Re: Some nonsense

how (il)legal would it be to sell seats at a cost that pays for prepping/racing them, and then raffling them off after the race?

Gosh, I hope so.  That sounds a little too much like caring who wins.  I'm not a big fan of rulebooks that can't be printed on the back of a flyer about what concessions vendors will be available.

These are Opel GT's we're talking about, here.  Perhaps I would have been better served to have mentioned Spank, Pete, fabtoys, Speedy...

If my bag of money had come In I'd already be down there with Chris loading them up to haul up to Tinyvette Corporate's garage here in Davis.

Dang, I'd love to do this, too.

Re: Some nonsense

So far I've received promises of $30 plus enough Nutella to cover at least one car. This thing is getting closer to becoming a reality.

Re: Some nonsense

I've got enough bacon to cover a car or two, but I'll cook it and feed the team of 40ish drivers instead.

Re: Some nonsense

You could always start by offering him $3000 for half of them and an option to buy the rest later.
