The first race we did at CMP we brought a complete backup car. I have a 2 car trailer and the difference is only 2 MPG to pull the enclosed 1 car or the 2 car. So there is no Equipment fee to consider and the Fuel in minimal.
Also I am not building a 2nd car to have as a back up. I am building a 2nd car so we will be running a late 60s car instead of a e30. There for its not possible to swap engines, since they are different cars. And I am building the 60s car since I its evident by the new award $$ RE: the IOE that the powers that be want us to bring out something other than a Miata or E30 . So the reason I am asking this is should I bring out an old car that breaks down and its obsolete enough that I cant get parts locally. Can I keep the E30 on stand by should the 60s car die. If not then ill hold off on the 60s car and wait until I have done a few track days then bring it out and keep running the E30. My concern has nothing to do with winning, its having team members that spent time and $$ to race and don’t get the seat time they expected. Yea I know that is racing, but as mentioned on another post it is getting harder to find drivers, especially if you can t say you will get X amount of seat time for X dollars. Thus having the 2nd car would solve this.
As for the $500 fee. I would enter both cars with 3 drivers each and split the cost for the 4th. before paying to have a stand by car . This way if one failed we could move all the drivers over to the other car.. Less driving time but it still would beat sitting on the sidelines. Or if both cars stay running the teams could get extra driving time. The trick here would be to find 6 drivers.
