Topic: Sponsors?

A well connected friend wants to get involved in building a Lemons car.  He asked if sponsors are allowed.  My first reaction is that it would be against the spirit of the event, and that although not technically prohibited, it might not result in favorable treatment from the judges.

But then I noticed that many Lemons cars have logos from various companies & shops, inclduing the winning cars at Buttonwillow and Thunderhill.  Obviously these cars had only subtle sponsor logos/decals.

So what's the deal?  If a new team showed up with sponsor logos, would they be banned, crushed, ridiculed, BS penalized to death, or just harrassed like everyone else?

Re: Sponsors?

Sponsors are allowed, but they can only help with non car-related expenses.  Anything that counts towards the $500 limit gets included whether you pay for it or a sponsor gives it to you.  They can give you brakes, tires, accommodation, safety equipment, etc.

Re: Sponsors?

Sponsors are fine and I want/need some.

Sure we have a $500 car with $3500ish dollars in safety gear.

Entry fees, tires, maintenance, travel and stuff adds up.  A cheap weekend on a recycled car is $2000.

With the expanded 2010 schedule, there are more events I would like to do.  If we runs 5 races, I expect it's going to cost well over $10,000.

I'd love some sponsorship to offset the financial burden on everyone.

Re: Sponsors?

If you can get help with the costs of racing, get it!  Like others have said the car itself is around $500, but safety prep and weekend will easily be over 3k.

Re: Sponsors?

Sponsors are good...wish I had some other than the wife??

They just can't pay for anything more than $500 car related (except safety)...so just use their funds for safety equipment or race expenses...or beer....

The more I think of it....a sponsor with a killer race rig and Marathon coach would be nice too

Re: Sponsors?

It seems the minimum you can spend on the car is $3,000. You just can't get a car on the track for much less than that. The weekend is going to be another $1,000 when you figure gas, food and the cheapest sleaziest motels you can find.

In a few years sponsored cars will rule.
