Topic: Roof attachment points on roll cage?
I'm curious about attaching items to the roof and passing tech. Do you attach to the roll cage structure or do you use another means for providing support for something on the roof?

I'd imagine as long as whatever you have mounted doesn't -
- compromise the cage (i.e, leave the tubing intact with no notching/grinding/drilling, but welded tabs are OK)
or
- pose an intrusion hazard when you go ass-over-teakettle
you'd be OK.
Muffler clamps (u-bolts) around the cage would be another good option (if you remember to get them more than 3 days before the race and then don't lose them again in the pile of hardware in the corner of the shop. . . )
The sombrero has u-bolts attaching it to the cage. You can see the bolt ends sticking upwards at the front.
The cannon is u-bolted to the roof sheet metal and the turret uses angle brackets secured to the roof sheet metal.
Neither setup had bolt ends facing downwards and tech didn't have an issue with either after a grab and shake test.
Thanks for the input. I'll probably just go the same route.
My M6 aerial delivery sled is simply U-bolted to a roof rack which, in turn, just clamps to the rain gutters. Tech has never had issues with it.
To run the official Jaguar bespoke roof ornament, I made a t-shaped base plate that sandwiched the roof. At the end of the bracket I welded a c-shaped piece of tubing that fit the outside of the cage tubing and clamped it in place.
It also fits on the hood.
