Topic: Firewall holes, Aluminum tape legal?

Will Aluminum backed tape pass tech to cover up firewall holes (A/C & heater line bulkhead holes)? I know cut up beer cans riveted into place will work, but this seems like a better/easier solution. Just wondering what the powers that be think.

That is what I was told to use by John at EGR last year. I passed tech with it @ Arse-Freeze 09. I used a piece on the outside and one on the inside of the firewall, had no issues.

A better solution than a license -- nay, a mandate -- to drink beer? Pish posh.

we used aluminum tape, but didn't think about beer cans.  I like that a lot better

I have an aluminum hood from a Porsche 928 S4 to cannibalize for sheet stock!

There is at least 3 aluminum hoods used as sheet stock on our car along with about a dozen other various doors, hoods, and roofs.

I'm proud to say the newly redesigned hood of our car does contain a beer can.

Re: Firewall holes, Aluminum tape legal?

Having sat in a car on fire in February, I would not be happy with just aluminum tape covering holes bigger than screw-sized.  Use tape a long edges, sure, but not as chief 1st line of defense protection.
