Topic: Question to the Gallery - Entering with one car then changing your car

Question - I was really looking forward to seeing a 74 Monaco run in a Lemons race, but they changed the car to a Ford Escort.  How will something like that be remembered?  Judges?  Organizers?  I wanted to see another Big Mopar race and was robbed of that chance.  I am sure part of the reason they were accepted was because Jay likes to see old big cars running and they were going to do a Blues Bros theme.  Discuss...

Re: Question to the Gallery - Entering with one car then changing your car

At one of the West Coast races (where so many teams get rejected in order to make room for truly effluent cars), they'd probably have been torn to pieces by a raging mob. It's not as hard to get into the New England race, so they'll be remembered with more disappointment than anger.

Also, we would have turned their Escort into a Fiat, because that's what we do to Chrysler products or their substitutes!

Re: Question to the Gallery - Entering with one car then changing your car

That was puzzling, unless the Dodge either wasn't fully sorted out, or quit running altogether. However, there was another kind of substitution that happened at Stafford during the race, as 2 teams actually substituted cars during the race.

I was wondering what the organizers interpretations were when approving an entire vehicle change. Are the laps combined? Do they have penalty laps? If they were in contention, and were leading any category, do they get to keep the win when running another car?

I know the two teams that did complete car substitutions had problems on Saturday (as their cars stopped running altogether), but so did other teams who took the time to swap power trains instead of vehicles. Judges, Organizers, fellow competitors, what say you?

Also, any teams thinking that this is a loophole through which you can drive your "1977 Matra Bagheera" (which actually turns out to be an RX-7) can just forget about it.

You know Murilee, when I found out that both Johnny and you were not attending, I was vary disappointed. You would have handed out justice with style, while punishing to your hearts content.

You already know what you missed, but let's review:
- The most rusted out Datsun 510 you would ever hope to see running, and well!
- A Volvo Wagon, with a humongous, pre-built  rollcage, so massive that the only way it was installed was by cutting off the rook, and then re-welding it back together.
- A Buick Regal, so heinous, that it's crew was elbow deep changing engines, and every crew member was covered in oil, grease, and dirt, all the while cracking jokes, and never losing their composure.
- An Astroturf Covered CRX, with the crew members dressed as the Teletubbies!
- A Spectacular Saab 99, with a relocated radiator no less, running some very quick times, and a unique exhaust system.
- A Camry Full of Babes.... need I say more?
- An unbelievably quick VW Fox, with an unbelievable bauble in the form of a gorgeous Fraulein!
- A group of Jersey Boys dressed in wifebeaters and track pants, with chains, and VW emblems. They were fun, but the image is forever burned into my retinas.
- And of course, the oldest car ever to compete in a Lemons event....... ever.

You better make it a point to attend next year, if Jay plans on being here next year.

We asked Jay if we could go back out in the rolled Corolla, however, we were no longer in competition for any awards.  They knew the Craptation died after logging 81 laps, so that was really our total.  We moved the transponder because we wanted get driver information, and compare lap times, etc.  Had we logged more laps than your Corvair, rest assured we would still not have gotten the IOE or anything else.

And I hope we didn't drive too aggressively, unlike the 2nd day Miata.
