I am curious why this isn't valid for Lemons also.  It is valid in other professional series and the belt manufacturer make the belts long enough to attach this way. The reason I hear is "too much length leads to shock".  Since these are non elastic and the they are taunt, why would this be?

Everything stretches/deforms with enough force.  Racing belts stretch up to 20% of their length during a collision.  So the longer you make them, the farther they'll stretch.

Re: S & W Race cars Lemons cage install.

Its not Lemons legal because thats the way Lemons wrote the rule which is what I'm going with! smile

As for webbing stretch,  I was unable to find what SFI 16.1 actually meant, I don't know what the specs are on sfi 16.1 webbing. My guess is the webbing is static, not dynamic and would stretch less than 10%. who knows, I couldn't find hard numbers when I looked, so I could be way off.

Everybody does it different.

2011 FIA WRC rules are here..  http://argent.fia.com/web/fia-public.ns … 3_2011.pdf

The belts can be cage mounted here is the diagram and wording

The rally america rules state the belts should be mounted as close as practical, and their cage doesn't stipulate a harness bar in the main hoop. but then again they say all new construction should conform to current FIA. Different rules for different series.

SFI 16.1:

6.1.1 BREAKING STRENGTH AND ELONGATION - WEBBING (CROSS
STRAP OPTIONAL)
The elongation of the Lap/Shoulder Belt webbing sample(s) measured at
2,500 lbs. (11.1kN) and of the Anti-Submarine Belt webbing sample(s)
measured at 1,500 lbs. (6.7kN) must be 5% to 20%. No elongation values
are required for the optional cross strap.

There ya go! Thanks Sublimate, it could be 10%   lol.

Im surprised they allow 5 - 20. thats a big range.

5 would be static, 20 would be dynamic in most people arresting applications.

Where did you find the specs?
